FAQ
How does the PRE-SELECTION PROCESS work?
The competition office of the International Beethoven Piano Competition Vienna will review all applications to ensure that they are complete and meet the required technical standards. The competition office reserves the right to disqualify any applicant who does not meet the application requirements, or who has failed to pay the application fee.
A preliminary selection jury appointed by the competition office will view and evaluate the audition videos. This jury will then select up to 50 competitors that will be contacted by the competition office on December 1, 2025.
The members of the preliminary selection jury are:
- Jan Jiracek von Arnim
- Christopher Hinterhuber
- Heinz Medjimorec
- Jasminka Stancul
- Wolfgang Watzinger
The 50 chosen applicants will be invited to the Online Video Round.
Can I send in my application after the deadline?
Your complete application must be received by the official application deadline. We strongly encourage you to submit your application sooner rather than later so that we can actively assist you in ensuring that it is complete and meets the requirements.
Please be sure to pay the application fee or your application will not be valid.
No applications will be accepted after the deadline.

Which repertoire should be chosen for the audition video for the PRE-SELECTION PROCESS:
Two (2) audition videos* (one video per work):
- Any piano sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven (a single movement or a complete sonata, free of choice)
- One other composition by Ludwig van Beethoven (free of choice, the work must be performed in its entirety)
Please note: We cannot offer any guidance on which repertoire to choose: this is entirely up to you.
How do I send the two (2) audition videos for the PRE-SELECTION PROCESS?
The recordings can be sent via YouTube-Link, Dropbox-Link, WeTransfer or any other comparable service to info@beethoven-comp.at. It is mandatory that you apply for the competition via our online application form and that you pay the application fee (100 Euro) before sending in your application video.
The audition videos for this pre-selection process must be of good quality with good audio. Videos must not be edited or modified in any way. Videos recorded at earlier concerts or other competitions are also accepted. Repertoire recorded for the audition videos may be included also in other rounds.
Please be advised that these application videos are for the pre-selection process only, and additional videos will have to be provided when you are invited to the official Online Video Round (see below).
What about repeats in my chosen repertoire - shall I play them?
Repeats in the performed repertoire are optional. Whether you do the repeats or not, will not affect the voting of the jury.
I was not selected in the pre-selection process. Will I get my application fee back?
The registration fee is non-refundable.
