The International Beethoven Piano Competition Vienna is Austria’s oldest international piano competition and ranks among the most renowned music competitions today. Founded more than 50 years ago, it is hosted by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the International Beethoven Competition Vienna has decided to develop a new approach for the format of its 16th edition:

The first round took place in May 2021 in an online format only: All previously chosen candidates (out of 231 competitors) sent in recordings of their first round performances, to be judged online by the Jury. All recordings were done without audiences, in one take, and with the usual repertoire requirements.
