The Webern Kammerphilharmonie was founded in 2015 to help jump-start the careers of aspiring orchestral musicians from the ranks of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Its members are admitted after having either received top marks or passed an audition.
This ensemble brings together the superlative qualities of its individual musicians—with their experience playing in the mdw’s larger Webern Symphonie Orchester under the leadership of figures such as Zubin Mehta, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Kirill Petrenko (all of them mdw alumni)—to form a sonorous whole.
Though still in its nascence, the Webern Kammerphilharmonie has already made waves as a symphony orchestra, an opera orchestra, and also (as a project partner of Vienna’s municipal theatre operator Vereinigte Bühnen Wien) playing in musicals. The Ronacher, the RadioKulturhaus, MuTh, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Vienna Musikverein, and Theater an der Wien are among its previous performance venues.
The list of artistic personalities with whom the orchestra has collaborated so far includes HK Gruber, Stefan Vladar, Ernst Kovacic, Alexander Kaimbacher, Erwin Ortner, and Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.
And one can fully expect this success story to continue, with upcoming engagements and requests from concert organisers in Austria and abroad.
