Twenty-year-old pianist Isak Choi was born in Pohang and was introduced
to the piano by his mother. In his first year at Pohang Jecheol Middle
School, he met pianist Julius-Jeongwon Kim and began studying under his
tutelage.
In 2023, he won the top prize among over 150 participants at the
prestigious JoongAng Music Concours in Korea. He also took home three
special prizes and first place at the 5th Ishikawa International Piano
Competition in Japan in 2019. Additionally, he secured victories in several
national competitions, including the 2nd Naver Classical Artist League,
Ewha Kyunghyang Competition, Dong-A Junior Competition, Korean Liszt
Competition, TBC Broadcasting Music Competition, and KBC Broadcasting
Music Competition. He also advanced to the finals as the youngest
participant in international competitions such as the Ferruccio Busoni
International Piano Competition in Italy and the ARD International Music
Competition in Munich, Germany.
He was unanimously selected to perform in a solo recital through the
Kumho Young Talent Concert audition and has since held solo recitals at
the Seongnam TLI Art Center and at Cosmos Instruments. He has
performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Gyeongsangbuk-
do Provincial Symphony Orchestra and has given performances across
Europe in cities like Brescia in Italy, Szczecin in Poland, and Vienna in
Austria.
He is currently being homeschooled while continuing his studies with
Julius-Jeongwon Kim and actively performing in various concerts.
