Jonas Stark, winner of the Hong Kong International Piano Competition 2022, has performed throughout Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, China, and Australia. As a soloist in piano concertos, he has appeared with orchestras such as the Heidelberg Philharmonic, the German Radio Philharmonic, the Duisburg Philharmonic, the North German Philharmonic, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, and the Haydn Philharmonie under the direction of Marin Alsop, Marcus Bosch, Martin Fratz, Dietger Holm, and Kahchun Wong.
Previous competition successes include a 1st Federal Prize and two special prizes at “Jugend musiziert” in 2014, 1st Prize at the Walter Gieseking Competition in 2017, 3rd Prize at the International Schubert Competition in Dortmund in 2021, as well as a special prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2022.
In addition, Jonas received the State of Saarland Special Prize for Outstanding Solo Performance twice and is a Young Steinway Artist. He has gained artistic inspiration from masterclasses with Konrad Elser, Leslie Howard, Peter Frankl, Dmitri Bashkirov, Robert McDonald, John Perry, Christopher Elton, Pascal Devoyon, Dmitri Alexeev, Steven Osborne, Adrian Brendel, Imogen Cooper, Martin Helmchen, Arie Vardi, Janina Fialkowska, Jörg Widmann, Geoffrey Madge, Anna Malikova, Bernd Goetzke, Grigory Gruzman, and Midori.
Jonas Stark began his musical training at the age of five with Jelena Semenenko. After completing his bachelor’s degree in 2018 at the HfM Saar under Professor Thomas Duis, he earned his master’s degree and Professional Diploma with Professor Ian Fountain at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Since 2021, Jonas has been studying with Professor Roland Krüger in the soloist class at the Hanover University of Music, where he has also held a teaching position for piano since 2023.
Jonas is a scholarship recipient of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation, the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, the DAAD, the German Foundation for Musical Life, the Hans and Ruth Giessen Foundation, and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.
