Yau Nam Ng was born in Shanghai in 2007. His love and passion for piano
has been with him ever since he began learning at the age of four. Yau Nam was
admitted to the Primary Music School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of
Music at age nine. Two years later, having achieved the highest piano
examination score, he was admitted to the Music Middle School affiliated to
Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
To date, Yau Nam has accumulated a series of impressive piano
competition first prizes. In July this year, he won first prize in China’s most
prestigious national piano competition, “The Golden Bell Award for Young
Pianists”. He was also the Silver Medalist in the Junior Piano category at
China’s 4th Zhuhai Mozart International Youth Piano Competition in 2022.
Other First Prize winnings including the Chopin Open Category at the
Singapore International Youth Piano Competition in 2015, the Children’s
Group at the EU National Music Academy Youth Piano Competition in 2016,
and the Young Professional’s group at Xiamen International Piano Competition
in 2022.
Yau Nam has also performed concertos with some of China’s leading
orchestras, including: Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Opera
House Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Wuhan Symphony
Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra and Chengdu City Orchestra.
Yau Nam formed a piano duo with another talented young Chinese pianist
Yutian Yang, the piano Gold Medalist of the XI International Tchaikovsky
Youth Music Competition. They have performed together extensively.
Yau Nam is member of both “Lang Lang Young Scholars’ Program 2024-26
and „Yangtze River Piano” National Young Pianists’ Training Program.
Since 7 years old, Yau Nam has been a student with William Chen,
Professor and Head of the piano department at the Music Middle School
affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
